Describe the Story : MN DFL Party Units To Host Gubernatorial Candidate Debate More at: http://dfldebate.com/ Hopkins, MN — The Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor (MN DFL) party 3rd Congressional District (CD3) and 5th Congressional District (CD5) will hold a public debate and reception featuring all MN DFL candidates for governor at the Hopkins Center for the Arts on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. MN DFL Senate District 44 will host the debate, and KSTP-TV's Chief Political Reporter, Tom Hauser, will moderate. DFL Candidates Tom Bakk, Mark Dayton, Matt Entenza, Susan Gaertner, Steve Kelley, Margaret Anderson-Kelliher, John Marty, Tom Rukavina, R.T. Rybak, Ole Savior and Paul Thissen have all agreed to participate. With the breadth of candidates in attendance, the debate promises to be lively and informative. This debate is free of charge and open to the public. Tickets will be available at http://www.dfldebate.com or in limited supply from participating candidates. The MN DFL 3rd Congressional District (CD3), and the MN DFL 5th Congressional District (CD5) are the local DFL party units of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor party. CD5 is comprised of Minneapolis and the surrounding area. CD3 is comprised of the western suburbs as well as some of the northern and southern suburbs of Minneapolis. The chair of CD3 is Ms. Marge Hoffa and CD5 is chaired by Ms. Heidi Quezada. MN DFL Senate District 44 represents an area including Saint Louis Park, Hopkins, and the southern half of Golden Valley and is chaired by Ms. Betsy Baker. Tom Hauser started at KSTP-TV in September 1992, after reporting and news anchoring jobs in Austin, Minnesota; Fort Myers, Florida; and Des Moines, Iowa. After covering the law enforcement beat in the Twin Cities for several years, Tom began covering Minnesota politics in 1997. He hosts the 5 Eyewitness News "At Issue" public affairs program on Sunday mornings. Tom has earned a number of awards for news reporting, including Emmy Awards for his coverage of the plane crash of Senator Paul Wellstone and for stories that helped solve the 1970 murder of St. Paul Police Officer Jim Sackett. He's also received Emmys for "At Issue" as the Best Public Affairs Program. Describe the Story : Gov. Pawlenty has proposed a constitutional amendment to limit state spending. I believe there needs to be a very serious discussion about how it would impact the state's future and the proposal should be scrutinized before being placed on the ballot. As chair of the Senate Tax Committee, I invited Gov. Pawlenty and his staff to testify about the "Spending Accountability Amendment" at a Dec. 7 Senate Tax Committee hearing. Gov. Pawlenty sent me a letter today accepting that offer and said that "Commissioner Tom Hanson and others will look forward to outlining the proposal in detail and receiving input from the committee."
