Meteor
meteor
A meteor, which fell on the Hempstreet farm 3 miles west of Paris in the late 1800's.; meteor found on farm of Dick & Andy Jones (from Handwritten 3 Hole) undated newspaper clipping: "Most Valuable Museum Piece, A meteor, which fell on the Hempstreet farm 3 miles west of Paris about 60 years ago, is probably the most valuable of all the things that have been put into the County Historical Society's museum in the courthouse at Paris. It was donated b Miss Alice Margreiter, who inherited it from the Sladek estate. The meteor seems to be a mass of metal, and is quite heavy. It most likely is a fragment from some heavenly body countless millions of miles away and was drawn into the earth's orbit and atmosphere after cruising around the sun for milllions of years. On striking the earth's atmosphere it became red hot and lost much of its size, ending up on the Hemstreet farm west of Paris. The owners of the place at that time were Dick and Andy Jones. On going tothe field one morning one of the men noticed vapor coming from a fresh hole in the ground not far from a plow he had left there the evening before. At a depthof two feet the celestia visitor was found. Just what it was and where it came from was a mystery until Henry Sladek, grandfathe of the present Henry, went out to investigate. At one glance, he exclaimed: 'It is a heavenly messenger, a meteor.' He brought it to his store in Paris, where it served as a curiosity and door prop until a year?
