Gemini Productions & Warehouse 21 present Spring Awakening, a Broadway Musical theater production. Spring Awakening is a rock musical with music by Duncan Sheik and a book and lyrics by Steven Sater. It is based on the controversial German play Spring Awakening (1891) by Frank Wedekind which was banned in Germany for some time due to its frank portrayal of abortion, homosexuality, rape, child abuse and suicide. Set in late19th century Germany, the musical tells the story of teenagers discovering the inner and outer tumult of sexuality. In the musical, alternative rock is employed as part of the folk-infused rock score. These young actors are ages 18-27 years of age will tackle contemporary issues that kids face in school, at home and in the real world. Rikki Carroll and Gus Spencer are aspiring 19 year old actors from Santa Fe, New Mexico (both 20 years of age during Spring Awakening). They have been performing together for 6 years and are now taking the next step and co-directing this show together. This is Carroll and Spencer's first time directing a show and it will be a tremendous but rewarding undertaking.
