Botanical Nursery Summer Intern Internship The Villager Botanical Nursery Summer - starting in May 2014   We are a retail nursery in Truckee (since 1975) specializing in Sierra natives and extreme cold hardy and drought tolerant plant materials. We have a small landscaping division, we do some design, lots of consultation, plant surveys and restoration. We have always maintained a strong focus on organic methods and on healthy soils. We do teach dozens of classes every year. We have worked very closely with cooperative extension on both sides of the hill including the folks there in I.V.

We are looking for one or two new intern / staff-members for this summer. We'd love someone with even a little botany or plant ecology course-work. Much of what we do is so botanically oriented that our past students have called us from school excited to put the practical and the academic together. The work involves a great deal of reasoning, learning and teaching. We love to hear the latest of what is being taught in our fields as well so it is a benefit to everyone involved.

If you have a bent toward Sierra native plants or steppe ecology or alpine environments... or you are just someone who really likes botany AND people, perhaps this is the internship for you!

Searching for Brilliant recent grads looking to jump into a global role. OFF-Campus Position Consulting     Ever dreamed about becoming a consultant? Traveling the world? Working with a multicultural team that takes work and play as seriously as you do? Have you wondered how you could possibly work with one of the hot Silicon Valley companies?

We can take you there. We have the tools, the team and the processes to make you into a certified Oracle UPK consultant. We have the client base to get you experience not just working, but consulting some of the worlds largest multi-national companies. How does that sound for your first year on the job?

The second year gets even better. Can your current gig take you to Manhattan, Dallas, Chicago, Las Vegas or San Francisco? How about Hong Kong, Buenos Aires, India or Costa Rica? No, it's not required, but we might even let you live there for a year if you ask nicely. If you're a graduating international student we've got you covered, visa and all. We've even got a plan for when it expires.

Our team's mission is to consult global accounts on their business processes including training, testing and compliance. We're on a first name basis with clients like Estee Lauder, Tulane University, Federal Express. We even work with the worlds largest search engine. Kind of funny that we can't use their name being on a first name basis and all.

We think we're great, but Enough about us. Let's get to the important part . YOU. You have to be good enough to make us better. We want your ideas, your passion, your energy. A masters or bachelor’s degree in business is preferred. However, we’re more interested in who you are than what it says on your resume. Maybe you majored in English or teaching and realized you can use your communication skills to get into the business world.

So what’s the actual job? We call it an Oracle UPK Consultant. It’s an entry level position, but the role is more akin to what you’d be doing after many years of success at a normal company. Hopefully that gives you an idea of just how hard you’ll have to work to catch up. If a 50 hr. work week scares you, stop reading. In a very short time you will need to achieve a UPK sales, pre-sales, functional and technical certification. You’ll be expected to help with marketing activities as you learn. In less than 3 months you’ll be face to face with some of the most demanding clients in the world. Yes, this job does require approximately 50% or more travel.

You’ll have to quickly understand a very complex technical product or service well enough to be able to break down the messaging in such a way that a business person can understand it. You’ll be expected to personally create various types of training and support materials for the client including standard operating procedures, self-paced simulations, test scripts, job aids, training guides, and a variety of other training mediums. In general you will be working with very seasoned business professionals on the client side, and you have to be able to engage in relevant business discussions.

Is this a lot to expect? Absolutely. But you won’t be alone. We have the best team of UPK consultants in the world. In fact, we’re the only global specialized partner for this product. Better yet, our team covers three continents so you’re supported 24 hours a day 5 days per week.

You have to be organized. You have to be smart. You have to be disciplined. You have to be confident. More than anything, you have to be ready to work really, really hard. You’ll be competing with industry veterans and you have to be better.

Oh, and in case you were so excited about the job that you didn't notice the location, yes, it's in the best place in the world. Incline Village on Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Our office is 5 minutes by bike to the beach. 5 minutes by car to the closest ski hill. 5 minute walk to the closest college. 3 hours to the coolest city in the world. Does that sound like your kind of neighborhood?

If you think you're up for the challenge, you're ready to work really hard and still have fun. . . Apply.

If you're thinking an old school resume and cover letter is enough, well... you might not get noticed. We’d prefer to see your portfolio. Maybe you took first place in a business plan competition? Did a really cool internship? Skied in the Olympics? Then you’ll be in good company.

Thinking it's too good to be true? It's not. Salary. Health insurance. Paid vacation. We even have paid sick leave. . . only we call it personal days. We don’t want you to have to call in sick on a good powder day... You just might see a few of your colleagues on the mountain.

Marketing Associate OFF-Campus Position Marketing Full time/Mon-Fri Based on experience Building a Marketing Dream team in a Dream location. Really.

We'll teach you a thing or two about the hottest topics. Things like Marketo marketing automation, Salesforce.com, data mining, Youtube videos creation, social media, tradeshow planning, search engine optimization, graphic design, competitive analysis, channel management and website design. Well, we need a little help on that last one. You'll learn multi-lingual marketing strategies (even if you're mono-lingual). In fact, native level English ability is required. 2nd, 3rd and 4th languages would help.

Our team's mission is to land global accounts. We're on a first name basis with clients like Estee Lauder, Tulane University, Federal Express. We even work with the worlds largest search engine. Kind of funny that we can't use their name being on a first name basis and all.

We think we're great, but enough about us. Let's get to the important part. YOU. You have to be good enough to make us better. We want your ideas, your passion, your energy. A masters or bachelor’s degree in Marketing is preferred. However, we’re more interested in who you are than what it says on your resume. Maybe you majored in accounting and realized marketing is much more fun. You made a video, it went viral and now you want to do it for a career.

So what’s the actual job? We call it Marketing Associate. It’s an entry level position, but the role is more akin to what you’d be doing as a Product Manager after 10 years with a normal company. Hopefully that gives you an idea of just how hard you’ll have to work to catch up. If a 50 hr. work week scares you, stop readying. You will be responsible for the go-to-market strategy and execution for one of our lines of business.

You’ll have to quickly understand a very complex technical product or service well enough to be able to break down the messaging in such a way that a business person can understand it. You’ll be expected to personally create various types of videos including “how to”, process explanations, talking head, video scribe and client reference interviews. You will need to be able to do the full video life cycle from storyboard to final editing. Don´t worry if you´ve never done it before. We´ll teach you.

You’ll drive a monthly campaign for your line of business. A campaign will always include videos, a webinar and updates to our website. At your discretion, it may include blog posts, partner co-sponsors, white papers, in-house telemarketing support or anything else it takes to drive traffic.

We’ve got a database with nearly a half a million IT decision makers for you to mine. You’ve got to figure out how you’re going to get a couple hundred of them to care about your campaign.

Within six months you’ll be expected to be one of the keynote speakers on the webinars you’re promoting. Within a year you’ll be encouraged to be a speaker at related trade conferences... which is a competitive independent selection process. If public speaking turns you off, this probably isn’t the job for you. However, anything is possible. If you’re so good that you can drive a line of business from behind a computer we’d like to see it.

Is this a lot to expect? Absolutely. But you won’t be alone. We’ve got one of the best teams in the industry to support you on every area. Unlike most companies, we have it all in-house; marketing research, graphic design, search engine optimization, Marketo and Marketing strategy. Better yet, our marketing team covers three continents so you’re supported 24 hours a day 5 days per week.

You have to be organized. As the Line of Business marketing lead, you’ll be the connection point for vendors we work with, our sales team, our clients and the line of business leaders.

And what’s the goal of all of this? Get enough leads and opportunities to keep our sales team busy so that we can continue to drive double digit growth.

PS. We often take field trips to visit our friends at companies like Oracle, EMC, Cisco and the world's largest search engine in San Francisco. If you're the newbie we just might make you drive.

Supporting sustainable tourism in the Icelandic highlands Volunteer Position CADIP - International Volunteer Projects 35 hours per week Volunteer Position Volunteers will be working on several projects, mostly construction and renovation related tasks, preparing the area for the winter, after the busy summer season, helping a group of locals developing the area with tourism services and pushing forward alternative ways of income, running a series of mountain huts in this isolated area and offering services to travelers in the summer.

The tasks will include landscaping around houses in the area as well as painting and maintaining verandas. As the landscape is raw, the work is physically demanding but also quite rewarding. We will be maintaining hiking paths, clearing litter along the paths and in the valley. We may also build fences around natural hot pools in the area and clear some old fences.

Location: The Icelandic highlands or "the interior" are a true pearl to all nature lovers and outdoor people. It is accessible on 4WD cars and most routes involve crossing unbridged rivers.
If you really want to get away from it all, the interior of Iceland is like nothing you have ever experienced. The mountainous centre of the island, with its rocky deserts, craggy mountain peaks, ice caps, volcanoes, hidden valleys and hot springs, is an awesome and untouched wilderness. Lake Hvítárvatn on the Kjölur highland road glints icy-blue at the foot of the Langjökull glacier, and in the black sands of Sprengisandur - the arctic river.

The interior was almost totally inaccessible until recently. However outlaws managed to hide out for years at a time in the highlands, rustling sheep and keeping away from law-abiding citizens. Folklore stories tell of both natural and supernatural beings that lay in wait for unwary highland travellers. Travellers going between the north and south of Iceland sometimes had to cross the highlands. To get to the assembly of Alþingi (parliament) each summer, delegates had to ride from every corner of the country to Þingvellir in the southwest.

Journeys across the interior were never undertaken lightly; such travel was risky and lives were often lost. Today the interior is crossed by two mountain roads, via Kjölur and Sprengisandur, which are only open in summer, after the snow has thawed in spring.

Volunteers will be staying close to the glacier Hofsjökull and near to the rivers Hvítá and Þjórsá. The mountains in the area that reach up to 1500 m, were formed during a volcanic eruption in the later part of the ice age. The area is still dynamic and great geothermal activity takes place in the surroundings. The environment is very diverse, both in shape and colour. The mountains are weathered and have very little continuous growth, as the forces of nature, like glaciers, water flow, ice bursts etc. have been fast working in these mountain highlands.

Marine turtle conservation program in the Caribbean Sea Volunteer Position CADIP - International Volunteer Projects 35 hours per week Volunteer Position

The aim of this project is to protect the marine turtles working in tight collaboration with the local population. The volunteers along with local people will realize activities to protect the turtles, and will help to ensure the survival of the turtles for the future generations.

TurtlesCozumel.jpg

The main work consists in patrolling the beach at night, locating the adult turtles and collecting the eggs, burying them in a secure place (vivero in Spanish) and setting the baby turtles free back in to the ocean. This must be carried out at night since turtles do not go out the ocean by day (because of natural predators, it is safer for turtles to get out the ocean in the dark). In collaboration with local people from Cozumel, volunteers will seek for the turtles, taking care of their eggs and the baby turtles. Locals are very friendly and working with them is very pleasant as they explain to the group what to do. We need very motivated volunteers who really want to get involved in this project willing to interact with the local people and their culture.

Language: The official language of the project is English. Some Spanish would be appreciated.

Leisure time: The area surrounding Cozumel offers a really big number of activities. It is very close to a wonderful place called Playa del Carmen, a really nice beach town with all facilities. Cancun city is also very close and it's very famous for its vibrating night life style. There are many night clubs in Cancun such as Cocobongo as well as other cultural and leisure places such as cinema, restaurants, swim with dophins, and nice tours by the islands such as Isla Mujeres. It is also possible to visit Natural parks such as Xel Ha or Mayan Ruins such as Chichen Itza and Tulum. It is also possible to travel to Belize for a weekend.

Project dates: September 22 - October 13, 2013
